Ricky Lightfoot defends Three Peaks title
Ricky came into the race straight after a night shift as a firefighter, only to return to the station after the race to complete another shift at the Cockermouth Fire Station.
Speaking afterwards to Salomon, Ricky stated:
“To win the 3 Peaks is a great honour, to win the 3 Peaks two years running is a huge honour! Felt strong out there today, conditions were tough and you have to respect this course. But I felt pretty much in control of my race from the start, and was in contact with Joe (Symonds) who lead early on and then of course Andy Davies was a big challenger throughout. I had about 30 seconds at Hill Inn and just put my head down on the climb to Ingleborough and on to the finish”.
“I’m happy with my form at the moment, I’ve got a big season ahead as ever, with my next target the Zegama race in Spain.”
Ricky conquered the tough 3 Peaks course in 2:51:42 and was good enough to take the win by almost 2 minutes by the time he reached the finish line in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Lightfoot is hoping to get this fantastic form into his next race which the world famous, Zegama race in Spain on May the 17th.
